The Festival of Trees Gala had a little extra sparkle this year as the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation gathered to celebrate a major milestone. Executive Director Lori Gervais said the mood inside the event felt more joyful than usual after the Foundation reached its MRI fundraising goal just a week before the gala.

“It did feel a little more like a celebration this year,” Gervais said. “It’s always a fun night, a gala, a celebration for the hospital, but hitting our MRI total just before the event made it really hit close to home.”

While the total fundraising numbers are still being tallied from the weekend, organizers say the community’s support has already been incredible.

Entertainment at the gala was provided by Justin LaBrash and Karissa Hoffart, who performed for the crowd and had attendees dancing throughout the evening. “We had people on the dance floor, which is always the goal,” Gervais said. “Everybody raved about them. They were fantastic.”

The event included a meal prepared by Spilchuk Catering and specialty cocktails from local vendors during the Jingle and Mingle Happy Hour.

Black Tie Bingo was introduced this year, giving guests the opportunity to win prizes valued at over $1,000. A silent auction also took place, offering decorated trees and trips to destinations including Niagara Falls, British Columbia, and the Maritimes. Gervais said the addition of bingo, now in its second year, was well received. “It’s something pretty universal. Everybody seems to have a great time, and the prizes are fantastic,” she said.

The gala received support from both longtime and new sponsors. “Many have sponsored continuously right from day one, but it’s also wonderful to see new businesses and new faces in the crowd,” Gervais said. She noted that the event’s success depends on attendance, participation, and ongoing support from the community.

While the gala is restricted to adults, the festivities continued on Sunday with the Hometown Family Fun Day. The family-oriented event included activities throughout the community, such as swimming, movies, visits with Santa at the mall, and bouncy castles at the leisure center. Local sponsors help cover the cost of activities, making participation free or by donation.

“We always try to make it a fun night and a fun weekend, but we also want to show our appreciation for everyone who supports us,” Gervais said. “The community really is amazing, and it’s a joy to see everyone come together for the hospital.”
